I always thought she got paid to basically be Wildlife Services for Ponyville. Considering what might come out of the Everfree on any random day, they’d probably pay her pretty well for that.
And again, we already know Fluttershy actually is self-employed. She does pet grooming as a business and almost certainly ends up doing general animal health care, given we see things like mice in casts and such at her home.

You forget that the reason his behavior was a problem was not because he wasn’t making money but because he was mooching off of his family, something which fluttershy was not to doing, so your entire argument falls apart because fluttershy had every right to call out zephyr for his actions.

To me, OP’s point seems to be he finds it easier to imagine that Fluttershy is sponging off her friends and family and being a hypocrite than that she’s getting paid for her animal caretaking or some similar tasks.
That’d be like someone claiming that Twilight just views Spike as her personal slave, or that Celestia actually hates Luna and is trying to suppress her, or– oh wait, yeah, forgot about this being the internet. Carry on, then.

Lets not forget Animal Adoption or something along that line, she sang with the poison joke so her animal friends could get adopted. Also bear masseuse, he looked so chill after getting his neck snapped. In the intro she was getting birds to sing in a chorus AND she was the only one officially allowed to go see the Breezies and escort them through Ponyville. She’s got that wildlife expert thing down.
Also further proof of her obvious disposable income. The episode with Iron Will she had someone who came and watered her plants for her and she got mad that he kept letting her mail get wet.
Maybe she just has a number of small jobs that add up together. In fact of the mane 6. Twilight is the only one who doesn’t really have a job anymore. It got blown up by Tirek. Dash is a Wonderbolt/Weather Service Pony. AJ has the farm. Pinkie Pie works at Sugar Cube Corner and plans Parties Vanwilder Style. Rarity has 3 boutiques so she’s the richest of em all. In the Capital City of Canterlot, in Ponyville and in the Metropolis Manehatten and all of them are apparently doing great.

According to the CCG, just as Twilight is the Princess of Friendship, the other 5 have the title of Ambassador of (respective element). In her case, Ambassador of Kindness.
I could see her home being a wildlife rescue/rehab. A friend’s boss actually gets to live rent free in a huge house on the grounds of a similar institution, just because they require someone to be on premesis overnight. Seems like something the crown would fund.
Perhaps the possible pets fluttershy showed RD were animals that came to her for aid then decided not to leave, preferring a pony aided existence. Being willing to move on as an animal companion if requested could be a stipulation of staying at the cottage once recovered.
Lunaverse claims she has a powerful family, and even without it, maybe her friends give her something akin to an allowance, so she can herself without bankrupting them?
Sounds like something Rainbow Dash would do. Pay off Fluttershy’s bills alongside her own, with Twilight, Applejack(?) and Rarity helping out post-NMM.
