@Background Pony #644B Kinda. I made some really crappy lowpoly props for it like bundles of cash and something along those lines.
But I was only assigned to it for a day or two because another employee was on sick leave.
@paluzna
ah dang, sorry to hear about the ISP douchery…
and yeah, that sounds about right.
This is prolly a gross generalization, but it seems to me many kids either very much carry over the worldview of their parents, or absolutely reject it. Whether it’s their manners, political attitude or faith.
@Hallogreen
thanks for the insight! and sorry for the late reply, my ISP decided to be a shit for 1 month straight.
@Hallogreen
not that weird realy, you grow up being exposed to the same type of media, aesthetic or culture, and if by some chance it didnt click whit you as a kid, you will just hate it later on, eventualy that creates a predjuice by asociation. i personaly cant stand 99% of latin music.
@Joshua
I have to it I’ve only played a little bit of the first game… Might sound weird but I have an aversion to german stuff, even though I am a native
@kaitoofrose
Daedalic has always been kinda catering to their niche audience with their games…
not the key to commercial success, but I guess they’re doing well, seeing how they’ve opened up
a second studio a while ago.
And no, last I heard was them porting the series to mobile, which they probably have completed ages ago.
@Hallogreen
So, from a gamers standpoint, and a lover of both 2D and 3D, I think Daedalic is doing fairly well, especially with their Deponia series. Before you left, ever heard if they are going to continue the Edna & Harvey series?
@paluzna
yeah, I’m a 3d character artist. (I’m very fortunate I get to do this job cause it’s what I want to do)
The transition from a 2d concept to a 3d model takes some…interpretation.
So 3d artists usually have a range of freedom. Sometimes you have to compromise,
there’s things that you can’t translate into 3d. Especially because 2d concepts are often only concerned with one angle, whereas 3d has to consider all (or at least a lot more) viewing angles oftentimes.
In my current job I’ve got quite a bit of liberty and oftentimes the concepts we are given
aren’t all that fleshed out, so it’s up to us to polish em in the texturing phase.
Also, we need to worry about consistency in the shape and texturelanguage, which is something often lost
in the 2d conceptphase, because we have like 5 concept artists who obviously all have different styles, strengths and weaknesses. Their job is more about the idea than about making a perfectly fitting illustration.
@paluzna
yeah, it was my first job in the games industry.
A friend of mine who I studied with, Florian Pett,
was one of the lead game designers for Blackguards.
He put in a good word for me, and…well, there I was.
They eventually had to let me go though…
because they did not have any further 3d projects in the pipeline.
Aaaand then I ended up at Goodgames, where I still work today.

So, you worked on 1984: Alcatraz?

So tldr; yes . ^^;
so you work as a 3d artist/modeler? hows that?
do you have any input in whatever you are working on or is all up to the designers/artist?
yeah, it was my first job in the games industry.
