Bad news: Still can’t go home (which is in a different state) due to a medication regime that requires a homecare nurse. So I’m stuck in a hotel. A very nice hotel, but still not home :(
@Draco_2k
That last bit was preachy and pretentious as fuck, and is also highly disrespectful of countless people who risk their lives and have died every day for causes they believe in. Are you trying to say that no war is justified? Cause I kinda think the war against ISIS and the war against Hitler were pretty justified.
@ObliviaTheChangeling
Looks can be decepetive. Most people think spiders are insects or that mushrooms are plants, and they’re not.
But that’s philosophizing. It’s obvious the writers were going for an insect motif there, yeah.
@Tragiclady
Yep, I got that. I’m saying there’s a lot of middle-ground between “drones follow queen’s orders and nothing else” and “everybuggy for themselves”. Most fanfics portray changeling hivemind as mass telepathy, for example, which leaves room for both individuality and lack of thereof. What Oblivia said, for example.
I don’t even get how or why humans armies and attack other people.
You can justify any evil with the excuse of doing it for the greater good. Yesterday it was spreading the empire or the word of god, today it’s overthrowing foreign tyrants or pre-emptive self-defense.
@Tragiclady
I see the Changelings as having a limited hive mind. They’re still individuals, but are connected on a different level that connects their minds, but doesn’t take their individuality away, sort of a hive-wide telepathy where individuals can communicate without the need for words (explaining why they never talk among eachother and only when in disguise and trying to fool someone).
I’m not questioning whether or not changelings are insects or not, but if they have individuality.
I’m hoping that they have their own individual hopes, dreams, memories, personalities, emotions, and all that other stuff that makes us think we’re so special. Celestia willing, maybe some of them enjoy reading or sports or have strong opinions in regards to videogames.
I haven’t seen enough in the show to prove one way or another, but I’m hopeful.
If changelings are individuals, then perhaps Queen Chrysalis is using her charisma and position of power to mass up changeling armies and attack other species. Tbh I don’t even get how or why humans armies and attack other people. Its so unrealistic.
@Draco_2k
Their pupil-less eyes, carapace-like shells on their backs and insect wings that flap extremely fast say enough. Oh, and don’t forget that “chrysalis” is the final stage catterpillars go through before becoming butterflies (the stage when they’re in their cocoon). We also see Celestia herself trapped in a cocoon during A Canterlot Wedding.
This all points towards the Changelings being insects.
@ObliviaTheChangeling
Do we even know if they’re bugs?.. As far as I know, insects don’t have a “hive mind” per se, they just have a - what appears to us - very odd social structure. A common misconception perhaps adding fuel to the theory. Maybe. Not so much adding any ground to it within the show’s canon.
It’s more a fanon that got ed around because it’s fun and interesting. Like with Lyra & Bon Bon.
The show told us practically nothing about changelings. Honestly, it’s part of the attraction: with so little info given beforehand, fans are free to come up with as off-the-wall portrayal of changelings and changeling society as they like, none of them deviating from what the show told us. I’ve probably seen at least a hundred different versions by now. It’s pretty rad.
@Draco_2k
It’s not really “plucked out of thin air”. The Changelings are bugs, Chrysalis is a “Queen”. In bug , a queen is in charge of a hive, which always have a hive mind, just not to the extend we see in most media (cough Borg cough). Hasbro may not give them a hive mind, but the theory of Changelings having one is not entirely implausible
The hivemind theory was already disproven in Canterlot Wedding when Fluttershy managed to trick her changeling doppelgangers into thinking she was one of them.
Sort of, not really though. Not anymore than biting the inside of your cheek proves you don’t have a brain. Most hivemind portrayals I’ve seen are more along the lines of “shared consciousness”, which is a somewhat more elegant explanation than changeling-clients connecting to the almighty Chrysalis-server.
Obviously the episode will be doing away with all that, the very idea of a hivemind being too complicated for both the target audience and the writers. It was always just a fandom theory plucked out of thin air, no reason it would live on in the show.
Oh boy. So many good fanons will be shot down with this one, I can feel it.
after introducing Cheese, Discord, Zephyr/Quibble and this changeling we now really only need someone special for Rarity and Applejack and then Hasbro will have a possible shipping prepared for eventual end of the series.
@Takashi.0
Been a while since I’ve seen that episode, sorry. The point of bringing that up is also because a lot of fanfics do that. I understand there’s creative freedom and all in such things, but for the sake of people with fanon who might have forgotten that quick moment (like I did) or somehow missed it, it would totally break that.
2: Does this prove there is no hivemind in the sense that he has free will?

If there was really a hivemind they would’ve known she wasn’t one of them.

No! Don’t! That’ll give him an instant heart att- HNNNNNG!!
There, there. It’ll be fine. Have some medicinal Fluttershy.

your current filter.Good news: I’m out of the hospital!

I am Miss Cleo otb
Holy shit. Get well soon, buddy. Don’t mind the little things.
Probably. I have been stuck in the hospital for close to two months straight, so I may be on something of a hair trigger…
Sorry.

Making assumptions there, my friend? As they say, it makes an ass out of you and me!
Approved! Also thread derailed apparently :3
THREAD ANIHILATED

your current filter.Literally said nothing of the sort.
Are you doing that thing where my comment struck a nerve with you and you’re seeing something else in its place?

You mean pat the changeling?
Neat.
