You know, when FiM was airring in Japan(dubbed) Rarity was the most popular, with Applejack in second. From what I can gather, a lot of Japanese viewers appreciate her strong work ethic, hard-working nature and strong loyalty to family. Her wearing a cowboy hat might also have something to do with it, perhaps. “Americana” girls are this exotic thing over there.
I think they liked Rarity because she’s an Oujo with a twist. That twist being she’s one of the good guys, rather than an antagonist, which is how most Oujo characters find themselves.
Similarly, Princess Luna was Japan’s most liked secondary character.

Ah. Okay then.
Listening to various dubs, particularly in languages I’ve studied, I’ve never noticed a difference between Applejack’s accent and anyone else’s, which I think is a big missed opportunity. It’d be really cool if, in the Europian Spanish dub for example, she had an Galician accent, since Galicia is a historically rural part of Spain, or if she even spoke the occasional word of Gallego, the native language of Galicia.
@BigBadSeed
Ah, yes. I have watched all of TWM, but I should point out I cannot tell the difference between Japanese dialects. I know there are differences between Osaka, West Japan, Hokkaido, Kyoto, and Tokyo. I just know not them. :T
A lot higher than iv seen Pinkie do on prior polls of Japan, Rarity and AJ being super popular there has always been the case though, as has RD being rather unpopular.
@Flying Pancake
I reading something about how they like her due to being the dependable, responsible, family-caring big sister-type. More in line with Japanese values or some such.
@Flying Pancake
My guess would be the blonde, green (or blue) eyed, wild American stereotype. Plus, maybe shared cultural values of hard work and family.

Anyway, do you know if she does?
Dunno.
No. Why is that something you wanted to ask?
Yes. Yes I have.
You mad?
Have you wondered that for four years because you’ve not yet watched Tomodachi wa Mahou? lol
He isn’t even a pony, so that’s my headcanon.

Jesus. XD
@Solitude
Thanks; I’m not really familiar with Japanese cultural values, but those are definitely good reasons to like her.
