Started this almost two months ago and I had to struggle to finish this. I’m not even sure if this feels complete, but I just want to get this done so I can it and start on something new.
Pffft, who needs to waste money on new atlases when you’re busy saving for that holiday to beautiful Yugoslavia?
Nah man, I’m saving to go to West . Then on to Czechoslovakia, followed by Yugoslavia. Then continue east through the USSR and head south to through Burma, East Pakistan, and across the water finally to Ceylon before heading home. xD

Really? I would say that 1953 isn’t THAT long ago - my mum and dad were born (ittedly, only 2yo and 1yo respectively); the year of the Queen’s coronation; etc.
I dunno, I think I’d say anything that’s “long ago” has to be at least beyond living memory. xD

I’m sure we all have memories of going into public libraries and flipping through those giant atlas books they would always have on a stand in the middle of the library for everyone to use.

So am i actually, loved that game but never got around to beating it on ps4. really should too. Not to mention the new prequel-ish side story that is out now, where we play as Chloe. =D

The MLP annual comic from 2013 answered some of those questions. I won’t give any spoilers here in case someone wants to read it who hasn’t already, but basically Sunny-Sun got herself in deep trouble and felt her chances were better in mirror-land. She had no idea what was on the other side, but at that point she thought anything was better than what would happen if she stayed in Equestria.
Beyond that, this is my personal speculation: the first time we saw her emerge from the mirror in EQG1 was actually the second time she went through during the period where it was open. Before the movie started, and unseen by us, she came through a first time, and found out where she was and what was going on. That’s pretty much the only way I can make sense of it.

There are more unanswered questions. Why did Sunny go through the mirror in the first place? It’s a world without magic. Why would she exile herself like that? Celestia’s explanation that Sunset wasn’t getting what she wanted as fast as she wanted doesn’t explain why she went through the mirror. What was she expecting to find? Also, how did she know about Twilight and her crown? It sounds like Twilight became Celestia’s student after Sunset already went through the mirror, so Sunset wouldn’t even know who Twilight was, much less that she was a new princess. It just doesn’t add up.
There are serious fanfic possibilities here which, to my knowledge, remain unexplored.
We know Sunny-Sun has been in the EQG-verse for at least three years. Probably five years, if we assume 30 moons = about 2.5 years. What was she doing between the time she left the FIM-verse and the time Twi-Twi went through the portal in EQG1? Especially right after she first arrived? How did she learn the nature of her human body and the world she was now in? How did she establish her identity in a world completely alien to her?

iirc Twilight mentioned at the end of RR the portal would always be open from then on, so Sunset is always welcome to visit. But considering her past with Celestia, Sunset still has her reservations on returning to Equestria even if she’s learned several lessons in friendship.

As for Sunset’s living arrangements…I like to think she simply brought some of Equestria’s gems with her, or gold - as both seem plentiful and easy to get a hold of there in the show - and traded it in for cash in the human world. Then she could set up her own apartment or rent a room from someone local. That would be easy enough and give her human world equivalent bits to spend.

No, I never looked at the atlases (atli? lol) in the library - I went to the science-fiction section instead. :P
Finally convinced my dad he needed to get an atlas produced after 1950; bought this 2013 one for £5 (new).

My house has at least atlas that pre-dates the formation of East and West . (It is post-war though) xD

Every late-80s or 90s bedroom needs a globe. Why? I dunno. Ask Hollywood. Or maybe that’s only boys’ bedrooms from the late 80s or 90s.
