Second of all, as I mentioned above, almost each and every one of the characteristics that I have brought up for him are taken from the movies and the shorts themselves, therefore you are not even allowed to whine about the writers not doing anything for him, mainly because they are sneaking in little snippets of characterization for him here and there in order to fleash him out more. If you used your brain and paid attention you would realize that.
Third of all, you basically shot yourself in the foot by trying to compare him to characters like the Mane 6, Sunset, Spike, Discord, and Celestia, why you ask? The answer is simple:
THEY ARE ALL MAJOR MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE SERIES.
Flash Sentry is a side character at best and a background character at worst. In other words you don’t get to make the exact same argument for them as you do for him. And as proven by the 100th episode, the writers already know that we give characters who only appear in the background or as side characters more depth and characterization, therefore that combined with the the characterization from the movies and the shorts, there’s literally no excuse for you to complain about him being Bland.
Once again, you’re just being lazy, or you’re too busy looking for excuses to hate him back you don’t pay attention when he actually does get small bits of characterization here and there.
In other words, you Justified yourself hating him by making up excuses for you not paying attention or completely just missing any characterization made in his favor just so you can continue to hate him.

Again, it’s them who put absolutely no effort into his character, let alone his “romance” with Princess Twilight, and no amount of headcanons we make, or details we pick, is gonna change that.
I mean, forget about whether he’s interesting or not. That may be subjective, yeah, but here’s one thing you can’t possibly debate: He’s nowhere as developed, characterized or explored as any of the protagonists, let alone given their depth. If anything, I feel like the only way he can be interesting (for some people) is precisely as the blank slate that he is, so that viewers may project on him, but then it means the writers have probably realized that and decided to keep it so, which only means they’re gonna keep characterizing Flash as minimalistically as possible. In other words, they’ve justifed themselves being as lazy as they can possibly be with his writing.
I can at least come up with ways to make him interesting like everyone does for every other BG/side-character in the series, you on the other hand are perfectly comfortable being lazy and just using the “he’s bland” excuse.

He mostly talks about himself and does nothing to his sister from controlling camp everfree when he knew it was dangerous but let it happen anyway. I’m inclined to disagree, but for the record, while I find Flash the blandest, I find Timber far more unlikable.
