Yeah, the origin of Nightmare Moon in the “Nightmare Rarity” arc is slightly different than in the show as it retcons and contradicts Nightmare Moon being Princess Luna’s dark half manifested as a split personality/evil alter ego/evil counterpart/doppelgänger, as confirmed by Jim Miller and Lauren Faust because in the comic, Nightmare Moon was the product of the Nightmare forces possessing Luna as a separate entity instead of a split personality (spawned from Luna bottling everything up) than a “symbiote”/“Jekyll and Hyde”. Also, characters and references to this story arc would later be featured in “Friends Forever” Issue #3, “Friendship Is Magic” Issue #24, “FIENDship Is Magic” Issue #4, “Tempest’s Tale”, “Cosmos”, and “Nightmare Knight”, which are also non-canon.
@dynamicv
Yeah, because although the comic series serves as a direct tie-in to Season 7 of the show, and half of the 12 issues split into two story arcs with the first half taking place before “Shadow Play” and the other half taking place after, there have been some contradictions and continuity errors in them. For example, Issue #3 shows Princess Luna meeting Mistmane during the construction of Canterlot Castle, but it was contradicted by Princess Luna’s dialogue in “Shadow Play - Part 1”: “We never met the other Pillars, and we were too young to understand the danger they faced.” Issues 9 and 12 mentions the events of Issues #2, #5, and #6, and in Issue #11, Star Swirl the Bearded mentions banishing a centaur to Tartarus presumably referring to Lord Tirek. This contradicts “Twilight’s Kingdom” where Celestia and Luna narrate the backstory that Scorpan went to them to warn them abort Tirek implying they were the ones whom defeated Tirek, as they were still in training at this point. It also contradicts Tirek’s “FIENDship Is Magic” issue, which is also non-canon, stating Celestia was in power before Tirek attacked Equestria. Legends of Magic Annual 2018 is a sequel to Issue #1. It also contradicts Luna’s dialogue in “Shadow Play - Part 1” about how she and Celestia were too young to understand the danger the Pillars faced, which refers to the Pony of Shadows. In this comic, they were kidnapped by the Pony of Shadows from the same alternate universe where Luna was captured in Issue #1.
@Angrybrony
Yeah, but they made their full-fledged debut in the episodes that are released after the comics were released. That’s why their first comic appearances were actually their “early bird cameos”.
@maverick159
In of development, DHX first created the other five pillars several months through over a year ago. The characters were then referenced to IDW for LoM, then a yonk after which, it was revealed through various venues including a DF teaser that the pillars would be in the show.
Of course, it’s assumed production began a couple months before IDW began their own production phases of the first few issue of LoM. However, to the Layman, typically us, the pillars debuted in the comics, which have been consistently tied to the show moreso since Issue 51, if it wasn’t exceedingly obvious to those who stay far away from the River Nile. >w<
Ostensibly the show writers thought of them first and were in the process of making the episodes regardless of IDW’S input.
IDW was apparently given the scripts and characters models, tnen proceeded to craft stories around it.
The crux of the argument being ‘Even though IDW debuted the characters, plot points, locations, etc first and directly propped up their appearance in the show itself, because IDW employees were apparently not the ones to originally think of them that means they can’t be canon.’
Well. They’re technically right. But that would still mean we’ve reached the point where “canon” and “non-canon” has become obsolete.
somethingsomething created for the show first somethingsomething comics directly foreshadowing show stuff doesn’t matter somethingsomething darkside complete.

they didn’t though those books came before the episode they were in.
They first appeared in the comics. But i don’t know who created them first
They started in the show.
“The age of time confuses me!” XD
ok then where did they start? cus it definitely wasn’t in the show.
Edited
No they didn’t.
somethingsomething created for the show first somethingsomething comics directly foreshadowing show stuff doesn’t matter somethingsomething darkside complete.

they started in the comics.
They are not comic characters. Whole point of these new comics is that they’re based on new episodes.
yeah stupid things like comic characters like this guys called the pillars of equestria like those guys would ever appear in the show.
People who think the comics are canon are always searching for any evidence to their delusions. Just like those who think eqg is not.
Hiw? Finale completely contradict prequel about Starswirl and dazzlings.
You still haven’t told me why this is.
legends of magic is.
True.
Comics are not canon is indeed fact though.
Your opinion is not fact.
why are we still here… just to suffer?
I’d love to see the evidence you have for this, given you stay it as a inarguable fact.
well that’s a blatant lie.
