I used to play it allot.
However my biggest mistakes were to jump out of the spaceship while flying highspeed, because I was not used to the controls.
I made this picture as a reminder of a fun time.

I’m running ‘linux’ currently (More precisely Ubuntu-studio 24.04) and ‘soon’ will switch to Manjaro.
It is shown and does ruun using Proton-GE (Glorious Eggroll). With steams-Proton, it crashes regulary.
And I’m not sure if steam on your steam-deck is set up to “Force compatibility for all titles”.
Check you steam settings and see if that can be enabled; Other-wise I would not know what the issue could be.
Now if you want to find a way to enable that and want to try Proton-GE out in-case it is unstable, there is a tool to install that, should probably also work on your steam-deck, called “ProtonUp-Qt”, a graphical proton version manager. I installed it using Flat-hub.
Maybe this saves you a couple hours of research, maybe not, lol.

They tend to like dirt a lot
