Sorry to say meanlucario, but college has been taken over by SJWs and has been changed from a place of learning to a place of indoctrination. Gender has always meant your biological sex but ALL OF A SUDDEN SJWs want to force people to use the word differently. Since they’d be female of whatever species they seek to become they’d be able to get pregnant, if they are normally a female then they might be able to sustain the baby after changing back depending on whether female changelings have wombs. If they they are normally a male and change back then I imagine they’d suffer massive internal trauma and the death of the baby
Maybe changeling shapeshifting is like transporters from Star Trek. Except instead of “teleporting” the target by disassembling them into energy and reassembling them in a different location, in dissembles then and reassembles them in a new form, changing them physically, genetically, and biologically, making them an exact clone of whoever they are imitating. If that’s true then that seems like an incredibly useful feature

DNA can’t make changeling stuff happen any more than blueprints you give a team of construction workers can make them instantly able to dissassemble a city into an entirely different city :p

Also construction workers can plan things intelligently. If you just change a city’s “dna”, though, each building will slowly break down but repair itself to different blueprints, making them dysfunctional and fall apart.
So changing DNA or DNA expression radically to another creature’s would certainly kill it.

DNA is the genetic material the tells your cells how to function, essentially. So Changeling DNA is able to manipulate cells to do basically whatever they want to do. So, for instance, it could turn sperm cells into egg cells.
