Yeah, I know that makes sense he being a dog in EqG ‘cause he is always with Twilight and would be a bit weird to a little boy be at her side all the time. But it is kinda sad to me even with that “logic”, they really transformed him into a pet, the original Twilight’s pet is Owlowiscious but okay.
The thing is… Well, the original Spike from EqG was just a normal dog which does not even talk or anything. What would happen if he crossed the mirror to Equestria? He would problably be a dragon that does not even talk and also would act like a dog, he was only able to talk when he was hit by Fluttershy magic in Friendship Games, I don’t think I need to explain how that happened. The fact that he is the only character who would go through something like this is… Funny?
If EqG is an alternative universe, yes, it can have its own rules but Spike’s counterpart is really different from the Equestria’s one in a point that he is not even able to talk to someone… So… Yeah… Alternative universe rules?

Yeah, I mean nobody debates on how old Batman & Owlman are, or Superman & Bizarro, or cares.
As for Spike, while I disagree all his episodes are “bad,” I never took issue with him being a dog either. It was also done so he could much easier always be around Twilight, carried in her backpack, ect.

Spike being a dog is representative of what he is to Twilight. A faithful companion who is always there for her. He also fetches her things on request.
People need to stop asking for Spike to have character development. We already know he’s not allowed to grow up and every time he gets an episode of his own (with few exceptions) it’s nothing but cringe because he causes every one of his problems.
Spike is a companion character for Twilight. He always has been, and that’s the role he’s best suited to.
As for the age differences, it’s explicitly called an alternate world. Stop thinking about it so hard.

Plus they pony up (anthro/half-pony) and I honestly don’t see the problem especially when we’ve amazing characters like Sunset in EG.

The Maud thing was never a big deal to me, she’s still probably Pinkie’s older sister, just a grade, or so higher then her.
The ages of the human characters aren’t the same as the Ponies, seeing as the Mane 6 are in high school, (while the ponies seem to be young adults) and the CMC are freshmen, (while the Pony CMC are still in elementary school, making them the only characters older then their pony counterpart) and such.
It’s not that difficult to understand. A.U.s (Alternate Universes) aren’t the exact same as the Pony one.
I don’t know why the age differences is such a big deal frankly. Even in the Ponyverse, most of the main characters & background/bit ones were pretty close in age, (except the CMC) so it kinda makes sense we’d see say Bulk Biceps, Derpy, DJ, and such also in high school. They’re pretty close to the Mane 6’s ages in both universes.
EqG already does not make sense, in its haphazard plotline. In fact, the illogical events for the sake of cliches and plot conveniences were one reason why I liked EqG, because they are ridiculous enough to be funny!

So someone needs to hate EqG to say that it makes no sense? I mean, hello. Spike is Twilight’s pet in EqG, he also was the only creature in the first movie that was really magical at the first time he crossed the portal, even the real Spike from EqG it was just a regular dog. Also, the diamond dogs are human teenangers in EqG. Oh,I know: it is just a cartoon. Give me a break… Making Maud Pie a high school student was really necessary? They just do whatever they want and how cares about logic.
Considering that EqG started out as a doll brand, it seems to make sense that it channelled Discord’s love of manipulating others in the form of dolls, or a mockery of some cliche picked up from the human world. They start out with predictable stories, but he then twists their lives for the worse into something incomprehensible.

Both versions are OK. It depends on what Equestria Girls stand for. The TV show (makes) or the girls themselves (make).
