SO: If the head’s diameter is slightly longer than the hand, assuming the hand is 5 inches long in its current position and Sil roughly maintains the show’s body proportions (2 2/3 heads tall), a standard pony is about 16 inches hoof to scalp, a lot smaller than the canonical 1 meter.
However, Tempest is taller than most ponies, standing slightly taller than Twilight in the movie. I’d say 14-15 inches to compensate.
Considering Native Americans referred to horses as sacred dogs, if someone wants a literal interpretation of that, a pony exhibiting canine behavior makes perfect sense.
Having said that, it’s still funny to see it depicted.
