I do hope that they don’t get in a relationship because of this, just genuine friendship about caring for each other. A relationship does carry a dark message about how damaged Cheerilee is.

Sad thing is, that may be what lead to this. Watch as Zypher dramatizes them by telling them about how their they made for her caused her pain and misery.
There is also the slight, albeit minuscule, chance that Zephyr takes a good hard look at the dirtbag he just chased off, sees a good deal of himself in that guy, and decides he doesn’t like what he’s seen. He might use the encounter as a wake-up call and it could totally change his outlook on life, where he slowly starts to change and develop into an actually fairly decent individual. He may even ask Cheerilee for help with such. She is a teacher after all.

Just because he had a moment of chivalry does not mean he is a good person. She is being tormented by that jerk OC, then that jerk, Zephyr, comes along and shows a tiny bit of uncharacteristic kindness while she is at what is quite possibly the lowest point in her life. A point at which, after it was over, had Zephyr not come to her rescue, she would have probably gone home and ended her life that night.
Doing what he did, Zephyr probably imprinted himself on Cheerilee’s devastated, vulnerable heart as someone who quite literally just saved her life. Albeit from herself and not the guy he got rid of. And now, unfortunately, she probably sees him as a “hero” and a “misunderstood soul” and a “sweet, caring guy” instead of the scumbag and creeper he really is.
A moment like this can really mess with a person’s head. Zephyr will probably be kind, sweet, and caring to Cheerilee for a few weeks or months, but, slowly, eventually, his sleazy, scummy, creepy self will emerge and he will end up treating her like, well, like he does with every mare. Except it will probably be worse for her since he will have her coerced consent to touch her. However, Cheerilee will not see it, because she will be in what she believes is “love” with Zephyr, but is actually a form of brainwashing that started to take its effect a few weeks or months prior in three of this comic.
Of course, Zephyr did not plan this meeting with Cheerilee, it was just a bit of good fortune and a whim on his part and a bit of bad fortune on Cheerilee’s. Zephyr is not going to stop Cheerilee from hugging him while she is at her most vulnerable, because not even the lowest of the low will reject someone that is that close to killing themselves. However, after she is over her initial depression, he will not do the right thing and bow out gracefully, he will continue to get as much undeserved affection from Cheerilee as he possibly can because he has a good thing and he does not want to lose it so he will not let it go. I mean, when will something like the scenario in this comic ever happen again for him? Unless he stages it next time, which will make him a whole different kind of creep.
