It’s cold out. Too cold for the insects. Too cold for the birds. Too cold for me.
I stay anyway.
Some would call this silence deafening. I find it peaceful. It’s a strange kind of tranquility, like the calm before a storm, or the silence of a forest just before a predator pounces.
It’s like something terrible is about to happen. The feeling of inevitable, unavoidable doom is inescapable.
But no matter how long I linger, it never does. I simply sit here, alone. Without words to say or company to keep.
It’s comfortable, but it does make me wonder… how long will I have to keep waiting?
