You might missed a bit point that i am trying to make, It’s not about the possibility of if steampunk could exists in 19s century. It’s just a style of art that blended of 19s century society and future technology hence why I said “what if robot, cyborg, ufo and stuffs already exists in 19s century” (as for dieselpunk, it’s the blend of mid 20s century and future technology instead) . Yes, Realistically it couldn’t exist, but since fictional isn’t bond with law of physics, and stuffs. It could be done in fictional universe.

We were talking about relation of magic and technology in steampunk, not about culture in the setting.
Though I it, almost nobody goes beyond confort zone of “XIX century England” when it comes to steampunk.
I mean - Imagine steampunk in Japanese setting. That would be cool.
it’s a big difference between steampunk and dieselpunk, that steampunk steam generally isn’t poisonous choking black clouds of soot. realistically, all steam engines were coal powered for the most part, so steampunk couldn’t have existed even in the 19th century. honestly I don’t think most people realize just how ugly and horrible the 19th century was.
so I feel like steampunk is more like “what if there was an industrial revolution where people cared about keeping things beautiful?” that’s why there are robots and advanced technology, because it’s a world as advanced as our own or more, just one where aesthetics and quality took a much higher priority to planned obsolescence and wealth production. just my opinion, really.
the frouffy clothing they wear is pretty retro 19th century victorian era though, so I dunno.

Well, as far I know. Steampunk is basically “how would you predict a future technology in the past, specificly 19s century”. It’s like those 60-70s futuristic that have like robot, cyborg, ufo and stuff that take place decades even centuries from when the movie published. But instead decades to centuries ahead, it’s more of “what if robot, cyborg, ufo and stuffs already exists in 19s century”. And this why a lot of tech in steampunk are based on steam powered tech. The same can be said with dieselpunk, but instead of 19s century, it’s in the mid 20s century.

Well it’s been an idea of mine for over a year. I plan on being a writer for the newer generations of MLP and I wanted to get the fan’s work involved. ShinodaGE being an example

No, steampunk is “technology first”, magic is an option, not necessity.
The entire point of steampunk is abnormal usage of antiquated technology (steam powered technology) to solve problems in the setting. You can add magic to great effect (like in Arcanum) but settings can survive without it.

the point is technology is cool, and it’s fun to be able to think about cool things that could actually happen, even in the context of a fantasy setting.

Magic still exists, but the problem as I see it is that it’s tied to the land itself, and they are trying to get into space.
the point is technology is cool, and it’s fun to be able to think about cool things that could actually happen, even in the context of a fantasy setting.
