My GUESS is that when Spike actually builds a tight bond with Gabby (due to the two being very close in personality, interests, etc), Rarity realizes his orbiting of her is in jeopardy of being whisked away by someone who will happily give him the world.
I don’t like this much as it paints Rarity as being exceedingly shallow and that she actually HAS been abusing Spike by keeping him in the “friend zone” by leading him along via carrot on a stick.
Still, I’ll need to see the episode before I make a judgement.
I’m pretty sure this was a joke and anyone thinking OP is actually that dumb has fallen victim to Poe’s Law.

True, but this is about Rarity winning back Spike, who she either ignored or took advantage of at certain times.
