First of all, using third party applications for filtering on an imageboard seems like a massive hassle, far more than Derpi’s built in filter. Sure, if you are used to using sites that look like they have been designed in the early 2000s like 4Chan and are an experienced coder you might be able to understand how those filters work, but otherwise it would actually deter standard s from visiting.
And yes, I agree that Google’s Captcha system is very bad considering it tracks everything you do on the site. But at the same time, I think there are alternatives to it. And saying you have to pay to by the CAPTCHA is kinda stupid if you ask me. Sure, they need funding just as Derpi does, and I totally get having a hip fee to get additional benefits out of the site, but that doesn’t give them the excuse to make using the site more tedious for normal s. Once again, that deters people from actually using it.

I meant imageboards in general. I never went on 4chan not only because the content there is complete shit (the same can be said for almost any imageboard) but they block Tor and VPNs and I couldn’t even view the catalog without enabling javascript (I usually disable it entirely although I’ve made an exception here).
@Starless
4chan lets you hide threads and there’s extensions or third party applications that let you do keyword based filtering, so no not really.
Also the new captcha they introduced is good because it no longer relies on Google’s captcha system which helps improve the privacy of using the site. If you really want to use 4chan regularly anyways you’ll probably have bought a and not even need to fill captchas out.

At least here you can filter whatever shit you want to hide, unlike imageboards where you’re forced to view everything except maybe NSFW but that’s about it.
Text-based captcha puzzles suck but they’re still much better than Recaptcha and hcaptcha. I could spend 10 minutes solving a captcha and I still get blocked for using Tor or a VPN (not on here, but elsewhere).

A booru is also an imageboard, just a different kind.
Imageboards in general are shit. 4chan is pure cancer. The others aren’t any better. The captcha is just one of many problems with 4chan.
