It’s almost a vi versus emacs thing, isn’t it…VLC is simple to install and use; MPV you really need to be comfortable with the command line and editting conf files to get the full benefit.
I don’t know if I’d say that since neither vi or emacs are simple to use from my experience. Maybe GNOME or KDE versus some tiling window manager? Or Ubuntu or Debian versus Arch or Gentoo?
