I was in denial, but not because of his physique but because I didn’t want him there. The fewer connections to G4, the better… Precisely because it just causes way too many complaints about the new show not being what people have attached.
But for physique, I went past accept and straight to praise because I hated what he looked like in the finale. I felt like this was a better design. Maybe not that skinny, but it’s how most fan artists imagined him at that age.
Well it does make sense that the image for acceptance is what it is. You have to be a bit cuckoo to accept that this is an okay design and direction for a character who already had plenty of solid development before.
Can confirm that this was me. Now I’m at the acceptance point the fact that he was surprisingly in character in that first episode really helped, though I still think his design and the overall G5 dragon model are terrible—
I went directly to acceptance: “so that’s what Spike looks in G5, okay, cool”. (In reality, it’s actually indifference, because I don’t watch G5 outside of the screencaps I see on Derpi.)
There are 2 forms of Spike fans. People who want him to be a gigachad and people who want him to be a femboy. No in between…and I guess neither won in the end
