It’s been 15 years. I can’t believe it.

I had been aware of the show for months. Pony was everywhere back then. I had visited Equestria Daily and Ponychan once, because I was curious. I had came across some incredible fan art (like >>11394). But the final kick was still missing.

That kick happened on 2011-05-14. Someone on 4chan’s /sci/ had set up a Stargate SG-1 streaming event. That evening, me and a bunch of others watched some good old season 2 episodes for hours. The streamer had a pony wallpaper (a screencap taken from the “so awesome” scene in episode 1x04) that was briefly visible between episodes. People liked it and that was the moment I decided to check out the show. On May 16th it happened. I found a season 1 HD torrent on The Pirate Bay, fired up uTorrent and ed the first 3-4 episodes. I watched them… and I ed the herd.

On some long-gone pony board, I recall someone lamenting how “you can never watch Winter Wrap Up again for the first time” and I wondered what they meant. After finishing the episode myself, I understood. I knew I needed more. I could not stop. I finished the rest of the episodes. Still needed more. I looked up fan content. The first fanfic I read was about old Spike dying and meeting Twilight and the rest in the afterlife. It made me tear up. I couldn’t understand how this “little girl’s cartoon” made me feel so much. The only thing I understood was that I needed more pony.

I still the first “summer of pony” of 2011. The incredible fan art we got already back then (where did you go, Moe?). The original “Equestria Girls” song (>>1386, >>2606449) that made me wonder what a strange fandom I had just ed. Celestia’s “OBEY” hope poster parodies. The first “PONIES the Anthology” video. The fanfics (Past Sins, The Empty Room, etc. that were distributed in Pastebins and Google Docs and other sites scattered across the internet, because FimFiction didn’t exist yet). Everything. I thinking how incredible all that stuff was and how the show and the fandom wasn’t even a year old at that point. I the season 2 premiere date announcement. I wondered what cool new episodes and fan stuff awaits us in the future. I thinking the show would last 3-4 seasons, then we’d forget it. Fortunately I was wrong.

I’m so glad I got to experience it all so early. I miss it all so much.

Oh how hopeful the world and the future felt back then.

(Did I really spent over an hour reminiscing the past and writing this? Yes, yes I did.)

I can’t believe I’ve been here for 10 years. I could never have imagined it would last this long. Sometimes I miss the 2011-era Ponibooru, but Derpibooru ended up being so much more and better than Ponibooru ever could be (sorry Eco). Thanks to everyone who made this all happen.

Today it has been exactly ten years since I started watching FiM. The ride started on 2011-05-16 at 13:32 UTC, +/- 5 minutes. I’d do it again if I could.

I’ve been on this ride since mid-May 2011.
 
I sometimes fire up Inkscape and draw images that contain something vaguely pony-looking. Usually they’re just vectors from the show, but sometimes they’re not. I generally don’t care what people do with my images as long as you give credits where credits are due and link back to the source (Derpi is the source for everything I draw).
 
TwiDash OTP, though Silfoe has made me really like Tuna. Generally speaking, if it looks cute, I’ll upvote it anyway.
