Imagine Princess Celestia gives me a custom flare as “The April Fool” with an achievement “Took things a little too literally” that rewarded negative ten points. Genuinely that’d be hilarious.
To be fair, it’s latex-backed, so unless you’re picking at it, it’s probably still not gonna hurt you as the grass blades are made out of coconut husks.
But there are actually a lot of fake grass products that use a latex backing. So, just don’t go poking your fingers below the blades.

Fake grass is plastic, so “grass allergies” would not apply. That said, Bastage or others may have sensitivities to the materials in fake plastic, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, latex, nylon, or vulcanized rubber (recycled car tires).
That, and fake grass does contain detectable amounts of heavy metals, VOCs, etc; no amount of lead is safe for humans; cium causes reproductive harm above about 1 ng/mL (health guidelines are more relaxed and say 5 ng/mL is the safety threshold); and all of these substances are bad for everyone, not just those with allergies.
So grass allergy is a thing? I know that lots weird of allergies are a thing, but it must be quite painful to live through lawn mowing seasons with this
Apologies if this gets long.
Yes indeed, grass allergy is all too real a thing. Can’t touch it, can’t inhale or be exposed to its pollen, etc. It’s not just one species, either; every single grass (and tree, and animal) I was tested against was positive. Some more than others, but generally a three out of four for severity, IIRC.
Side note: when my allergist performed a test on my back, when I was ~12-14 years old, I reacted so badly (swelling, weeping, rash, etc.) that they couldn’t even differentiate the tests from each other after five minutes. In case you’re not familiar, here’s kinda what it’d look like (don’t look if you don’t want to see allergic reactions happening to someone’s back skin):
Imagine that, but a grid drawn on the skin in pen or marker, about 10 x 10. Now imagine the swelling being so severe that everything runs into everything else. The allergist said I was the worst case he’d seen in 26 years of practice. Yay me. 🙃
Thankfully, I haven’t experienced “full-blown” anaphylaxis with any of these common allergens (yet). But it’s made much worse by the fact I also have Type 1 diabetes. Any time allergens are present, my blood sugar increases. Lately, quite substantially, because tree pollens are killing me right now, particularly maple and juniper – both 4/4 on that scale from earlier. I won’t be able to go outdoors, without taking TONS of medication like antihistamines and corticosteroids, until early June. I’m staying in an electrostatically filtered environment until then. :)

@BigBuggyBastage
You’re the second person in a week I’ve met who is allergic to grass. Never encountered this before. Interesting.
@Naughtypony2010
Thanks buddy! Actually it was embarrassing because…
It’s 7:00PM, a mom and two of her kids were walking by, then an older man with his dog, then a couple cars drove by, all while my own mother is holding the camera for me.
But I haven’t cared how people see me before, so why start now?
This is gold, you really earned an extra for this.
This post is also something that we should do more, instead of grinding here buuuuut lets make an exception because its derpi
