I actually have Dual! It was the first anime I owned. As for Tenchi, I have a few volumes of the No Need For Tenchi manga and Tenchi Universe, but otherwise it’s been ages since I’ve seen anything Tenchi.

It is truly an underrated series, thanks to the two reboots for the TV series, which turned people off when they got confused by the differing continuities, as well as the incredibly long time between OVA volume releases.

Depends on the Kiyone you’re talking about. In the OVA, Kiyone is the name of Tenchi’s mother. The name was taken by one of the writers before it was officially assigned to her in the series, and used for the character Kiyone Makibi for the “Mihoshi Special” which introduced her (and may, or may not have actually happened in canon), and she returned for the rebooted TV series (Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo). While I like Kiyone Makibi, I like the OVA worldbuilding far more, and unfortunately, she has no place in it.
ryoko was initially my fav character but the way she treated her daughter ryoko left a bad taste in my mouth and ever since I have lost a lot of respect for her…which means mihoshi is my fav character now!
as a fan of the ova universe and the ova universe only, kiyone is a completely worthless fifth wheel who ruined mihoshi’s character
also i think washu should be a alicorn since she’s a god

This was like one of the first anime I ever watched. And it still confuses me.
I blame this show so much for showing up when I was going through puberty.
…Also oh god the English dub in retrospect? How the hell did I stand it as a kid?
