It’s the ‘never’ part of the statement that losses me. Even assuming our current knowledge on phobia or triggers will never go out of date, there are plenty of people that don’t want their phobia to be a factor.
For example, take someone with a phobia of snakes. If you throw a defanged snake at them at 6AM they’re probably not going to be your friend anymore, but they’ll live. If they were never in any real danger, then it’s not like they lost anything.
What if they say it’s okay?
What if they’re always talking about wanting to get over their irrational fears?
Obviously, if you don’t know the other person well, it’s not okay. Anything could happen.
Obviously, if it’s the kind of guy that goes hysterical all the time, it’s not okay.
But plenty of people aren’t like that. Not only saying never, but underlining it just sounds so sheltered. As if the author thinks there’s something fundamental about the human condition that makes my examples impossible. I’m also not a fan of talking on other people’s behalf, something feminists can’t seem to help themselves with. People with phobias can talk. It’s not like they’re chimpanzees that can’t communicate their injustices. You can’t just say “All [demographic]’s think this way,” and expect people like me to be on board.

Logical extreme, false equivocation, oh and you’ve got to love the assumption of intent, very helpful to reach a common understanding.

your current filter.I think most people would understand that the implication of “prank” in the image is that the “victim” of the “prank” didn’t agree to it.
Did you know that someone can find a fault in a message without completely disagreeing?
And no, they didn’t say ‘don’t be a dick’. They said ‘never do this’ and underlined ‘never’.
If a message is going to put that much effort into emphasizing that their message has no exceptions, then where’s the confusion? Why wouldn’t someone point out exceptions?
Not sure why you’re trying to carve out such an edge case for an image that simply distills down to “don’t be a dick”.
