It helps when the ship never relied on canon to begin with, so there’s none of that pesky bandwagoning like it’s Super Bowl time or something. As long as it remains pleasing to look at, it’s going to be a thing. No one ever expected it to be a thing.

Seem like after KCaFo many Fluttershy shippers turned to fluttercord ship. Just one season was enough to generate almost 900 tag images. Though from what i read in comments on deviant art, there were more of an ex dislestia shippers than fluttermac. Fluttermac seem to have more loyal fanbase that survived both fluttercord and cheeriemac era. For example DiscorPie almost ceased to exist after fluttercord and cheeseepie introduction. So it is kind of curious phenomenon that some ships carry on and some really just sink.
While I’m completely in favor of this ship being canon, I’m also realistic enough to realize it probably won’t. If nothing else, I seriously doubt Fluttershy is going to be the first member of the Mane 6 to get a special somepony (Flash Sentry doesn’t count and you know it).
Heck, even Rarity, who actually has demonstrated interest in romance, doesn’t have a coltfriend.
They’re gonna keep the Mane 6 single to keep them relatable to the actual target demographic.

If anything she will bring a friend like Bulk Biceps or Spike, Big Mac is not in any way connected to her character and he is too busy working on a farm. Most likely she will just bring some kind of animal or CMC so the episode don’t focus on romantic jealousy but more on friendship sharing
You want to know why I believe this pairing will become canon? In addition to it being popular and Hasbro playing to said popularity, there’s also the rumored Season 5 episode where Discord gets jealous. If the purported episode turns out to be real, then the most obvious answer as to why Discord gets jealous in the first place is that Fluttershy and Big Macintosh finally hook up. Of course, by the end of the episode, Discord learns how to be happy for his friend, but the point is, we all know its coming, and we all know its going to happen, so why don’t we cut the crap and just declare this ship canon?
