Detailed syntax guide

@TexasUberAlles
Alright, story time.
First off we must begin with that no book of the bible mentions the earth being flat at all.
Secondly, the greeks knew the earth was round, but they believed that it would take so long to sail around that you would die before you came back. So since the people of the time knew about this concept and had no reasons to question it, the whole flat earth thing isn’t even founded on creationism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth#Early_Christian_Church Even Wikipedia, which has a atheist-favoritism shows even the early christian church though this. What you encounter with the ‘Modern Flat Earth Society’ is nothing tied to religion, even if some of there are trying to link it.

I’m glad we can have this discussion, I’m also glad your mature enough to see that flaw with certain atheist. Another popular one is “Religion causes all wars” notion which is absurd.
@Saga The Dragon
Flat Earthers. Those who genuinely believe that the Earth is flat. They’re the ultimate devolution of Creationism, the way “all religion is a mental disorder” types are the ultimate devolution of Atheism.
OH MY GOD DUDE,I DON’T KNOW! ITS A LOGIC LOOP!IT GOES IN CIRCLES AND CIRCLES AND CIRCLES,PONY WHY?!WHY YOU STILL AROUND?!
@Bardic_Knowledge

Such a term does not exist yet because we have yet to encounter such other beings, and if does exist it’s purely a fictional word. Though you do bring up a fascinating part of scientific ethics, that being stuff like encountering aliens or creating AI.

For the most part anything with sapience equal to us should get the same respect.

@TexasUberAlles

Flat Earth drones?
Be careful how you respond to this sort of question; an awful lot of people aren’t being brainwashed Flat Earth drones about it, they just genuinely don’t understand because whoever was responsible for educating them failed to adequately explain how evolution works. The simplest answer to “If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes?” is “We didn’t evolve from apes, Humans and modern apes both evolved from an earlier type of ape that no longer exists.”

…And if they’re pissy about it, then you can mock them.

@Bardic_Knowledge
If you can carry on a conversation with it, it’s a person; Humans only equate personhood with “Human” because we either killed off or outlasted all the other people we used to share the planet with, and the other Great Apes– while certain individuals are capable of crossing that line– aren’t quite there yet as species. If space aliens landed tomorrow and had their own culture and society, they wouldn’t be non-people just because they came from somewhere else any more than an immigrant from a different country on Earth is less of a person than the locals.

Basically, if I were to wake up one day to find that I had turned into a robot (or a cat or a magical unicorn or a sapient blob), but nothing else about me had changed, would that make me any less of a person? I say no.
@Bardic_Knowledge

“Someone who believes that being human doesn’t matter so long as you are a person?”

I am sorry, I do not understand what you mean.

I do have to say it’s strange to see light and darkness a literal aspects of good and evil.

This is actually making me think of a debate I have in my head with someone at work (we both work in separate areas, so I just pretend she’s answering even though I have almost no idea how she’d really reply).

To put it simply, I am a very strange person who finds darkness comforting, light painful, and physical strength is neither something I have nor something I care for having.

She is a traditionalist who thinks darkness is evil, light is holy, and that I have to “man up” (she actually said that to me when I said I’d rather work with the bottle return machines instead of lifting heavy objects).

Also, since we have some cool people here, what would be the proper term for someone who believes that being human doesn’t matter so long as you are a person?
@BigMax

It’s a really juvenile arguement you make. Most likely one you make before you get better understanding. Any creationist who works at proffessional level would never be caught being seen saying this unironically.

Source: I’m a creationist.
I know it sounds quite dumb - really really dumb, actually - but I have this hunch that some creationists actually use that argument.
@The Twelfth Doctor Whoof

So they were basically fucked out of existence? Kinky~ I bet this sorta thing may happen with aliens possibly.

Thank you both Doctor Whoof and Mateo~

Like Mateo said, there used to be more humanoids. Just within the era of Homo sapiens (the last 100,000 years), we shared the earth with Neanderthals and the Denisovans, and interbred with both. (FUN FACT: if you’re of European stock, you’ve got a nice chunk of Neanderthal DNA in you; if you’re Melanesian or Aboriginal, you have Denisovan DNA; if you’re Black African, you have neither)

But the other species all died out, due either to an inability to adapt to changing climate, or being outcompeted by us.
@Saga The Dragon

Biology major here. There were other species of human. At several times, probably three or so on Earth at once. Homo sapiens are the only remaining ones, though. All the others died out.
@Gundlach

You look smart!
Can you explain to me why there are no partner races for races? Kinda like there horses, donkies and zebra….but with humans there are just humans. Where are the other humanoids?

I don’t know much about evolution and I’d like to know.
Because evolution works like this.
