The fact that this has the “I’m Pancake” tag, yet it was months before the episode, makes it all the better. I only wish I knew which idea was first; the episode, or this image? It was most likely the episode, since it could have been in development for a year, but it could also be this picture…

Those Bat Guards probably had years of training to control themselves in their Vampire forms. Y’know how untrained Saiyans couldn’t control themselves in their Great Ape form and elite Saiyans like Vegeta were able to be in full control of their actions while transformed?
I believe the same rules should apply here.

Dark gray coats, bat like wing(they where black), the tips of their ears where the same but not the inside, and yellow/gold eyes, but no fangs or feral looking manes or tails.
And it’s also worth noting that Flutterbat was far more feral than those bat ponies. Heck, I honestly don’t if Luna’s batpony guards had any fangs or not; I just them having black coats and bat wings, and possibly red eyes. And I’m too lazy to go look it up.

To be fair, there were one or two artists that depicted Fluttershy as a batpony before that episode. But then, the same could be said for all the other ponies as well by that point.

The idea of Flutterbat may stretch back to when bat ponies were introduced in Luna Eclipsed.
