I always thought that was because they’re drawn to anything with their owner’s smell on it, and/or body warmth. Or just warmth. Like how cats will hop into a basket of fresh from the dryer laundry and take a nap.
Or when they sit on the last thing you put down - like if you put a shirt or jacket on your bed, they immediately got for it to sit on. You’ve given them fresh bedding!

Warmth is probably a thing, too. It definitely is, actually. Even us humans like to sleep under blankets, hence in a warmer place.
