I would prefer a Maud Pie toy targeted to kids to have a slight gentle smile, personally, though this is more likely a case of reused molds.
Her countenance on the box art in that outfit is just… priceless, oh my Maud. I can’t look without laughing. That was totally intentional by whoever did the packaging. Pony Mania is a hell of a drug.
I could only see her wearing this in a story where a misguided fashionista desperately tries to “brighten” her appearance. Alternatively, these are flowers grown from soil that Maud fertilized with rocks and minerals, or rock flowers, but Maud simply wouldn’t show off like that.
I’d like to think a lot of kids would love a straightforward Maud Pie without the weird gimmicky nonsense they’re putting her and her frock through here.

Yeah, I think her “official” cutie mark is an aperture, though in the show, it’s Twilight’s because somebody screwed up for something. I’ll accept the aperture as canon.

Photo Finish’s cutie mark on her TRU exclusive brushable is a camera aperture, very similar to the Aperture Science logo, except in purple and black. AFAIK that’s the closest to a “canon” version of her mark we’ve ever gotten.
