M. A. Larson said something about there not being enough green ponies in the show when he appeared in the “Bronies React to the Season 5 Premiere.” He was the story editor in this episode. Therefore I believe he is trying to tell the storyboardists and artists to remedy the lack of green ponies, because in addition to him, Tree Hugger was also green.
In fact, it seems there has been an uptick in green pone since Larson came back to the show in S5.
