You know, upon re-watching this, I feel like Celestia would know what Luna really meant, but kind of milk the conversation for maximum innuendo anyway, without telling Luna just what was so funny.

Though I’m sure Twilight meant it in the modern sense when she said “See that’s what I’ve been saying”. And she’s right.
I think it’s actually not that big of a suspension of disbelief.
Celestia starts the conversation in a way that immediately splits the context (she quite likely meant ‘sleep together’ sexually, but Luna had been sleeping with them and so the obvious answer that comes to her mind immediately is ‘That’s true, yes’), and keeps Luna ‘reactive’; For the most part, Celestia brings up the subjects (so her wording’s used), and Luna just expands on, confirms, or denies it.
