Nah, officially they’re puppets, and don’t exist below the waist. So can’t be gay or straight. (How this explains Miss Piggy and Kermit, I don’t know).
 
They’re also confirmed friends, because they’re intended to show how even if you’re different from each other, you can still be friends.

I always saw Bert and Ernie more as brothers, even if they were surrogate brothers.
 
Also, I wonder if they’ll sneak Peter Cullen into an episode of MLP since Optimus Prime is getting the Ponified treatment.

Did you know? Ernie & Bert were supposed to have an episode where they get married, but it was cancelled because parents didn’t want their kids learning about gay marriage.
