Yeah, it’s like looking back at the old Ninja Turtles comics, movie, and cartoon. Some characters only appeared for like one cartoon episode just to help sell an action figure.

Well yeah, but when you have to make a huge playset with several ponies and props and still want to make a profit, you have to make cuts somewhere. The Royal Wedding set is like $20.
A lot of merchandise-driven cartoons were like that: they focused on quantity over quality, because each new character they introduced was a new toy they could sell, and they didn’t have time to develop their personalities: besides, kids are dumb and will watch anything.
