Well, Baby dragons aren’t really helpless, they have tough scales and can breathe fire. But they’re much, much, much more vulnerable than adult dragons, and are much more likely to meet a violent end at that age.

Okaaay. I don’t have a counterargument for that. Still, it would be interesting to see a picture that has Spike outliving some or all of the other characters.

Still, “several millenia” is normally considered the smallest possible lifespan for a dragon. Further ed by how 100 years apparently counts as a simple nap for them.
Also, Rarity’s unchanged appereance suggests that he died still a baby dragon, which would be much easier to kill than an adult. Even if dragons are among the absolute toughest fuckers in fantasy lore, their hatchlings are pretty helpless until a certain age.

Well, ageing seems more likely with such a hardy creature as a dragon. Still, you never know. Maybe he just gets himself killed heroically saving the others all the time.
