Repeating my question from earlier, because I avoided any previews/synopses/promos for this episode, and because I’m genuinely curious: Where was it mentioned that Lyra Heartstrings would be in the episode?
@Beau Skunky
I like LyraBon shipping (though really, I just like the two of them together, whether it’s romantic, platonic, or (though I’ve not seen this last one) filial), and even I would like to see more art of them separately just to broaden their characterizations more. (Please note that I’m not asking for less shipping art, just more non-shipping art.)
@Background Pony #C0EF
Lots of cute/amusing art there, and considering the context of your comment, it’s ironic that several of the images aren’t really all that “shippy” in and of themselves.
Also, before I get heat, I’m not telling people to stop ‘shipping, (I’m tired of being accused of that) I’m just not as into ‘shipping as other fans are. That doesn’t mean I’m against ‘shipping, or anything, I’ve even faved/upvoted some shipping pics of pairings I don’t care for.
If people like lyra & BonBon that’s their biz, but people should be allowed to like other versions of them, or just have them as a platonic friendship too if they want, I feel.
@Background Pony #1124
I’m kinda neutral on the “hands” thing, but ittedly I like the human gag sometimes, as it kinda makes Lyra like a backwards-brony, which is a nice ironic gag. Though, I don’t think I’d want to see that in canon.
Some fanon gags are better off being left in fanon.
@Beau Skunky
Oh you reminded me, I used to hate the hands thing, but now I want it back. It is the lesser of two evils.
The only fanfics I ever read, which, note, did not have anything to do with Lyra or Bonbon at all, just to happened to ship them if they showed up for second cameos, even if the main focus on the story was on a m/m couple.
“I mean I can see the appeal of them being a duo, or something, (whether platonic, or shippy) but it feels like they can’t be individual characters anymore, or you can’t have one without the other now.”
This is how I felt since at least 2012.
@Dashu
Not complaining, I have nothing against fanon, (I even enjoy some of it myself, and I’ve even defended a few memes myself) just feel nowadays that we can’t have Lyra without BonBon, or vice-versa, and such.
@Background Pony #1124
Heck, sometimes people get mad if you pair them up in a non-shippy “platonic” relationship sometimes. (Like in “Anthropology.” Which was actually a good fanfic, and I don’t read fanfics much.)
Ironically, I still see people complain about some fanon/meme gags like “Lyra liking humans/hands,” but I honestly don’t see them that much anymore nowadays. All I ever see are “Lyra & BonBon” shipping pics.
I mean I can see the appeal of them being a duo, or something, (whether platonic, or shippy) but it feels like they can’t be individual characters anymore, or you can’t have one without the other now.
@Beau Skunky
Considering that there’s no actually canon personality until Slice of Life (which isn’t helping matters), that’s kinda bound to happen with popular background characters.
I find it silly to complain about fandom characterization of such “blank” characters. They’re basically OC stand-ins anyway.
@Beau Skunky
That’s what I say all the time but no one listens. It was bad before, but it’s gotten worse over time. I recall even seeing several blogs and stories in the early years where they didn’t know eachother, were not lesbian, and had different lives.
Obviously everyone would call heresy now, but still.
@Background Pony #1124
Good point, I don’t get why we can’t have Lyra, or BonBon without the other nowadays though. They both seem kinda flanderized by the fanbase with that pairing. (Whether portrayed shipping, or not.)
Yup. Lyra was mentioned as one of Twi’s Canterlot friends so it was hoped that she would appear too. Alas, it was not to be.
…That’s it?
At the beginning of the episode when Spike is counting off Twilight’s old friends because she can’t their names.
@Dashu
Irrational exuberance.

Works for me.
Perhaps, I’d just like to see more to them then those things, or more alternate fanons for them.
@Background Pony #C0EF
Being ironic, I see? :P

Oh come on, it’s not like there is anything to Lyra without Bon Bon. Except for the human fetish thing.
I honestly
don’t
see your point.
To me
the Lyra
Bon
shipping
doesn’t seem
overused.

And I second the description; that’s prime fanfic fodder waiting to be tapped.
On a photo.
AH TELL YOU WHEN AH HAD ENOUGH!
