I’d like to think a Cutie Mark it’s like a patronus.
Every single patronus is individual to everyone, yet Snape had the ability to adopt the same patronus Lily had, because of the connection he had with her. McGonagall on the other hand, could summon three identical patronus.
@Strull
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I’ve never seen her horn lead her to an elaborate mural or a mysterious grotto that only lets a few rays of light in or such. it’s either been gemstones, her own dresses, or possibly a stallion or two she’s swooned over, and that hardly constitutes, especially given her butt-mark.
was it ever explicitly stated that finding beauty was her talent?
@Jarkes
I think the problem is that people feel that maybe this is somehow by proxy removing their idividuality or something, and that’s just laughable.
First of all, season 4 had a pretty prominent episode about how you should carry yourself when you meet somebody who’s got a better knack for your talent than even you do. Nobody complained when Cheese Sandwich showed up and out-pinkie’d Pinkie Pie.
Secondly, getitng your cutie mark does not automatically remove the things you’re good at. Let’s take… I dunno, Rarity for example. NOTHING about the gems on her flank tell of a fashionista with equal parts artistic flair and business savvy. Her special talent is finding and assessing the quality of gemstones. If we took a more literal interperatation of that, we’d end up with >>834948 or something of the like.
Having a knack for being cutie mark crusaders does not magically overwrite who these three are, and their hidden dreams and aspirations. Applebloom in particular is multi-faceted in this regard. of COURSE she’s good at handiwork. she’s been watching her family repeatedly fix the barn and gazeebo repeatedly. of COURSE she’s interested in potion making; she’s the one who has a bit of a connection with Zecora. Her world does not revolve around these things.
Also, no one ever complained about Shining Armor having the same six pointed star of Twilight’s cutie mark embedded in the shield of his own cutie mark. And there have been other ponies with pretty similar cutie marks, too. So I really don’t understand the problem here.
Even if their cutie marks weren’t similar, eventually we will see two or more ponies with very similar cutie marks to each other. Besides, the CMC are very close friends, so it would make some sense for their cutie marks to look nearly identical.
I’m not squinting at all, and I’m sitting a good distance from my screen, and I can see them just fine. …Of course, that may also be because I wear glasses. Hang on.
(checks how it looks without my glasses on)
Yeah, my glasses help me see it much better. Without my glasses, I have to do what you describe.
And really, that’s pretty much my only real problem with them; they’re too small.
I feel that their cutie mark reprisents their stalwart solidarity while still showing that they are multi-faceted individuals who wouldn’t be as complete without one-another. They’ve been on the crusade with each other and are so ingraned in each other’s livesfrom such an early point that I think some of their latent mana probably mixed. This would explain why they have mane stripes in the shield.

Same goes for a Cutie Mark, I think.

Her talent is finding beauty in general, not just gemstones.

Plus, IIRC there are plenty of background ponies who share cutie marks, even when they look different otherwise.
I’m pretty sure it’s because some people are pissed their headcanons are ruined.
Now that they’re a permanent part of the CMC’s design, I’m sure the animators will find just the right size for the marks as time goes on.

If you’re squinting with your face to the screen.
Yes, you can. The inner parts of the marks are pretty clearly visible.
Except they’re pretty different while similar at the same time. I think it balances out.
also, they can form a Phalanx with their butts.
On the plus side, we won’t have Tommy Oliver screaming bloody murder about this.
As for Silver…ho boy..he either needs to just take a breather about this, or this is sooo gonna be a sour spot for him and the show.
@Silver Maelstrom
Sheesh guys, jokes are jokes!
Correction, had the same. I forgot they gave her the Aperture mark later.
Too bad, Da Magicks made perfect sense.
Don’t forget that Photo Finish and Twilight have the exact same mark. They just mean different things.
Yeah, doesn’t the Apple family have with Apple cutie marks in some variation or another?
I’m having a hard time telling whether or not you’re trolling or just being an idiot
