The main obstacle would be getting a camera setup with a high enough realtime framerate.
 
Rendering the pony is trivial; pretty much any computer running Windows 95 or newer should be able to handle it. It’s easy to forget now after so many seasons, but one of the key virtues of Friendship is Magic back in the day was that it used old, known technology and was cheap to make. Old for 2010, that is; Flash is positively decrepit these days.
