What’s funny is that it’s like that in canon too. Spike’s already all heart eyes by the time Rarity turns around to show her face.

Yeah making zebras not monochromatic while retaining basic sanity guidelines (pale coat colors, darker stripe & mane colors) is an extremely good move.
