I forgot AJ’s exact line following this, but it had something to do with hitting fertilizer (basically implying that AJ thought Twilight was high as a kite right now).
Twilight, this isn’t like that Rick and Morty episode “Total Rickall” where Rick and his family has to deal with a bunch of fake background characters which turned out to be an army of memory parasites!
@gingerninja666
I doubt that Twilight tries to act that way. I also doubt that she thought she was above envy. She just thought she wasn’t allowed to be envious or frustrated with her friends. She was confused and wanted to deny that her quirks can compromise her role as the princess of friendship. She didn’t handle the situation well. But, that’s no reason to antagonize her that badly.
I thought there were MOMENTS where the cast were out of character, mostly with how much they found Discord’s antics funny, but in this scene they were pretty on the ball. Having absolutely none of Twilight’s shit.
I liked that Twilight actually had an arrogant streak here. For all her posturing that she doesn’t think she’s bette than anypony, she thinks she’s ABOVE feeling envy BECAUSE of her pincessness. She does think she’s better than other ponies in a way, and it works with her stubborn, arrogant science obsessed side we saw in Feeling Pinkie Keen. That side of her already exists.
@PonyPon
You see, this is the difference between Twilight Sparkle and Applejack. Applejack is the Element of Honesty because she makes a conscious effort to be honest in all her dealings. Twilight couldn’t tell a lie if her life depended on it, because she has no clue HOW to be dishonest.
@pwingbrony
Well yes - even though most of the episode just felt uncomfortable, and everpony seemed off like BP#3614 said, but the ending did make it all seem more worthwhile.
I understand that Discord was, in his own way, encouraging Twilight to get over her blatant jealousy. And it still felt gratifying to see his own jokes get turned on him!
@Mellow91
Yep. However, I ended up appreciating the episode more because of that. It was relatable for me, personally, to the point where I was getting upset like Twilight. But, the way the ending was handled made me feel better about it all.
I facepalmed hard at this scene.
And also at the “inside jokes”.
It’s a hard episode to get behind, for me. Probably in part because I otherwise really identified with Twi in this episode
Yeah…weird.
A llama? They’re supposed to be dead!

I like how Rarity calmly disposed of hers without even pretending to spill it.
“Twilight’s gone crazy again, and she wants us to drink some ‘magic potion’ she’s come up with? I don’t think so…”

Inside jokes though… still a complicated breed!

Maybe because everything felt oddly out of character.
Except Discord. Discord was Discord. But everyone else seemed…off.
I’m still waiting for the shocking twist and the episode’s already finished.

This is why she never got to be in Celestia’s spy organization.
