Contrariwise, if we look at the colors going clockwise, starting at the Red and counting the light yellow that ittedly isn’t part of the design of the kite, itself, we get the ROY G B aspects of a rainbow’s ROY G BIV. But, personally, I think that a kite is sometimes just a kite.

I’m seeing a 66% similarity only. The tail is a light yellow that really doesn’t seem to be part of the main design. A 66% match in colour only is nowhere near enough to call it a rainbow kite. Not that we need maths to work this out. It just does not look like a rainbow at all.
If we use the old original 7-colour rainbow, we then get a measly 57%. But that’s dumb so I’m not doing that.

Superficially yes it is a rainbow, a collection of colors in a set. Celestia’s and cadences hair are technically rainbows too. But they are not the same as a real proper rainbow and neither is this. This is not a rainbow pattern and in a show that has used bright and contrasting colors including proper rainbow patterns in so many things and designs, to call this kite with its design separating the colors which seem more designed to clash each other than form a set, a rainbow is just something that seems really silly.
I feel if Hasbro really wanted to make a rainbow Kite they would have made it an actual rainbow kite. To say close enough is to say that it should be interpreted as a proper rainbow which it is not and never can be.

False analogy. Flags have specific designs that go beyond the choice of colour; Here, we are talking strictly about two sets of colours that have an 84% similarity among their elements.

Well the French and the American flag have a 100% color match…which by the logic of “close enough”(which I still think is pulling at straws) are the exact same thing. What I’m saying is that if the show wanted them to have a rainbow kite it would have given them a real rainbow pattern as they’ve put the pattern on so many other thing in the show, some generic kite pattern does not equal a rainbow no matter close enough you think it is.

If it was meant to be a rainbow kite it would be organized in a real rainbow pattern,this shows has put tons of rainbows patterns on things. You say close enough, I say not even close.
Why are people calling the kite a rainbow,it’s colors don’t event contrast that much. Red-orange…blue -green. A real rainbow would have more than five colors including the tail.
I’m not sure. I was just chiming in, since I noticed the color pattern and found it nifty.

Kite = red, orange, yellow, green, blue.
