@tehwatever
That does make a lot of sense and sounds really interesting.
Another way i could see the writers going is a brand new pony showing up and seducing Sunburst away from Starlight, whom later turns out to be a disguised Chrysalis and it’s all part of her revenge.
Stellar Flate is such an ass. I can’t even describe how she thinks in such an overbearing and ears-blocked way. That’s exactly why Sunburst snapped - Y U NO LISTEN??
We can always play that for comedy. Besides, Starlight is not doing anything; She’s good now, and her problems with careless use for magic has been mostly addressed. I mean, so far we didn’t even see her fire a dangerous spell at anypony or mess up anything major. So…there is literally nothing that Starlight is currently working towards.
Her trying to win Sunburst could be something that writers can work with, and Twilight is a great character to play as Starlight’s competition.
@tehwatever
Seeing episode Uncommond Bond and Shadow Play I can see the writers playing around with Twilight/Sunburat idea, if that happens, then poor Starlight, of all the ponies that took him away its her own teacher, the one who took her town away and everything she worked hard on. But orobably be too mcuh drama for pony
I still think Stellar shipping her son with Twilight would not only make sense, but also would make the eventual Starburst that much more worth it.
Imagine: boy and girl got separated, met again twenty years later with a lot of emotional baggage. Found out they have litte in common anymore, boy’s mom ships boy with girl’s mentor and best friend, but despite all that they get together in the end? Wouldn’t that be a sweet ending to their arc?
I think it depends on Stellar Flare’s goals. If she just wants grand children, she won’t have anything against Starlight. Starlight isn’t a stranger. Stellar Flare knows her as her son’s childhood friend.
Stellar Flare doesn’t strike me as someone who would help her son succeed through nepotism. She just wants her son to succeed. She explained her motives at the end of the episode. She doesn’t want Sunburst to feel lost.
Again, in-universe Starlight’s a nobody, and for most of her adult life never really had a career.
She is a former student of the Princess of Friendship, a Heroine of Equestria who received the Pink Heart of Courage and a friend of Twilight, Celestia and Luna.
She is also the guidance counselor of Twilights school.
Surely that is not too bad.

@Darth Sonic
I do. At least, Stellar before the end of the episode would. She wanted success for Sunburst and marriage to a famous and well liked public figure would be far more lucrative compared to marriage to a rando.

If you was a success / career oriented parent, if given the opportunity, would you pick THE Princess of Friendship, or some childhood friend, to be your son’s wife?
@Background Pony #376C
But I can kinda understand wanting a princess/someone whose accomplished in their lives as a life partner, especially when its someone like Sunburst… if all that fails, there’s always the childhood friend, Starlight..
@tehwatever
I kinda got that feeling as well, but at the same time, it sounds more business, like she’s just telling Sunburst to get on the boss’s (Princess Twilight’s) good side, moving near to the place (she assumed he worked in permanently) so he can get more task, which is what my parents often tells me if I want job opportunities to open up for me, getting friendly with the boss, so I’d always be on their good side and moving closer to the company so I wouldnt have to travel back and forth
@tehwatever
There was a youtube reviewer that was waiting for Stellar Flare to ask Sunburst if he’s married yet. He’s predicting that in a future episode where the parents visit, Stellar Flare will hatch a plan to get Sunburst married to someone influencial. But then Starlight hatches a counter plan to make Sunburst the least desirable bachelor ever so she can keep him all to herself.
The introduction of these parents opens so many dumb stories. I hope they get the chance to make another appearance.
But the way I see it, Stellar was trying to setup her son with the Princess of Friendship herself. I mean, hooking up with Twilight would set their family up for life. Fame, fortune, security, everything.
But letting her son hook up with Starlight? Let me say this again: Starlight might be infamous in the meta, but in-universe she’s a nobody.
Twilight is the better candidate for a spouse than Starlight by a huge margin. Any parent serious about her son’s future would pick Twi over Starlight any day of the week.
That does make a lot of sense and sounds really interesting.

Then we would have a new cause for the Ashland’s Timeline. Nice job there Steller Flare!

And Twily could not get a taxi.

Well, the Mane Six were often unrecognized…

I don’t see Stellar rejecting Starlight like that.
