I sadly have to agree that the plot of this one wasn’t handled quite right. Maybe the idea was for Pinkie to be depressed was the goal, but having her quite literally forfeit everything she loved over… poor skills at an instrument?
I’d rather have been interested in her having played “super serious” and been terrible at the beginning of the episode, offend a yak, and then spend the episode depressed about having strained her relationship with the yaks, and only when she goof off with the instrument does she get that “you only play it with joy”.
As is, it comes off more like she actually forcefully HAS depression and that one little thing being shot down cripples her and she inverts harshly.

Except that she was being emotionally manipulative as a matter of fact? Intentionally or not, that was a low move. Ignore years of friendship because of one thing your friends don’t like. Hmm, yes, this is a- no, can’t even sarcasm it. That is just a bad lesson.
I’m going to ignore you’ve biased, ignorant comments, and instead focus on the fact that they brought the sad pan face back for this shot. That’s awesome.

If its not intentional, its not manipulation

I wasn’t talking to you, I was talking to OP.
Calm down, it was sarcasm.
