That sounds about right, I always figured they were sort of a combination of metal and clouds but this was just the artist’s rendition of how he figured Raptors would look like.
There was a light description of them in the original, as well as a description of the Thunderheads. Mostly I like the idea of them being very large and imposing sleeping giants here, because it ties into the themes of the story well. The clouds on these probably dissipated after they were destroyed, leaving just the metal skeletons.
Interesting, I thought they would have looked like more regular ships, but with both ventral and dorsal weaponry and clouds mounted to their bow and stern.
