Ripping up paper, clothes, screendoors, wallpaper, your couch, your toilet paper, your bed and your pillow are other reasons why you should declaw your cat. It’ll save you money on replacing them every time your cat destroys them.
Yes, I’m aware that dogs can do the same thing. However, unlike cats you can teach your dog not to do that anymore. It won’t work on cats through, they’re too stupid to understand what you’re trying to teach them not to do.

And that’s why you trim their claws. Or if you can’t do that, get ‘em front declawed if you can’t get ‘em to stop. :T (Note: Yes, I’ve heard all the rants and rambles about how omg cruel it is, that’s why I suggested trimming instead.)
I just bought my cat two new cardboard scratching posts yesterday to prevent stuff like this, perhaps you should rub some finely ground up catnip on it to get the pony started?
