And let me be on record by saying I’m not against the idea of paying for mods. It’s a good idea and people should be rewarded for their hard work. However, something like this needs a good amount of policing or we’ll have those dishonest developers that plague Greenlight and Early Access abuse the hell out of this system. And that’s not even going into whether paid mods will be fixed if a future update breaks them and making something free suddenly get charged for cash out of nowhere (looking at you, Skyrim).
@ED-SKaR
Which are mods that changed up the gameplay and structure so much that they became their own respective games and are treated as such. I don’t think a new character model or a HUD model is comparable to an entire reworked game.
The issue here is that mods that were once free were suddenly charged for real money. It raises a ton of questions and it’s putting some games that rely on mods for longevity at risk.
All three of the ones I mentioned were free mods that valve took on board and sold for money.

@soundtea
No, I think Greenlight is still the worst thing ever, but this is definitely a close second. Valve should’ve realized how greedy some modders were going to become.
@rylasasin
I heard about that. Worse is that people are stripping all the borrowed resources in order to just get it on there for a chance at making money from a formerly free mod.
Notably, the person behind Wet and Cold released the 2.0 version only on steam workshop for money, leaving nexus s in the dust completely. One or two even require DLC, so paywall behind a paywall.

Team Fortress
Counter Strike
Garrys mod
Ah, someone else whom realises that not all modders are paragons of virtue.
But I didn’t listen
Sigh. The things people do for money. This is making the entire modding community into EA.
New versions of SkyUI are being paid now.
I wish this was a nightmare.
I bet everyone who s this program will call Valve pussies if they back down.
What a bunch of cunts.

inb4 Valve backs down and stops this whole operation

This is just disgusting.
Chesko (the guy who did Frostfall) tried to put his mods on Steam Workshit’s pay system too.
He’s backed out now. Or tried.
Wet and Cold wasn’t even THAT good of a mod. Give me Frostfall any day.
A paywall is one thing. A paywall behind a paywall is terrible.
Those arent approved yet. These are the currently approved mods

@Iketani Iridium
By the sounds of it, yep. Dick move, no pun intended.
