But shields like the one Twi used to protect herself and some other ponies against Starlight’s spell can be called just the shield.

The same reason that Twilight’s greatest fear in TCE was disappointing Celestia, and yet she’s not in love with her. Not everything is due to romance, and none of their dialogue had hints of it in the episode.

It really did seem like more of an unrequited crush than a lack of friends story. Why would she have reacted so severely to just Twilight missing her party, when all three of the others were perfectly willing to be friends. And the jaded attitude towards Twi when she showed back up fits as well.
…so we have Twilight putting them both in a bubble of silence, and Moondancer becoming anti-social because while the other three came Twilight didn’t, and the premise of the episode being Twilight trying to make it up for shunning her off last time.
