It pisses me off when people protest against genetic engineering and synthetic biology, or try to make laws against it. Despite what highly flawed, propagandic “studies” say, there is no evidence that GM crops are harmful, and anyone saying otherwise might as well say that eating bacon causes autism. And for those who say that synthetic biology could create monster organisms and viruses, you clearly don’t realize that most major outbreaks are handled quickly. Worldwide pandemics are extremely rare. The same applies to artificial viruses.
Cloning extinct species is not bad either. If we wiped out the mammoth, the thylacine, the moa or the megalania, it is our obligation to bring these creatures back to life. We were playing God when we wiped them out. If we can bring back dinosaurs, then I also that. Ecosystems are far more adaptable than hippies and environMENTALists say they are. If there were really that fragile, life on Earth would have died out long ago. If a dinosaur, an engineered dragon or whatever escapes from a zoo, such escapees can be captured easily.
TL;DR, biotechnology is going to IMPROVE our world, not destroy it. If it weren’t for biotechnology, we wouldn’t have cheese, bread, wine or even cosmetics.
