The great GamerGate discussion. (Stuff and things)

@Too_Offensive

@Turkeynomster

A quote of her from a conference in 2011 from the Breitbart link on uc9s CNN page:

“Self-identified nerds are often so obsessed with their identity as cultural outcasts that they are willfully [sic] blind to their privilege, and for the sake of relatively-absurd fandoms — space marines, dragons, zombies, endless war simulations — take their myopic and insular attitudes to ‘art’ and ‘culture’ with tunnel-visioned, inflexible, embarrassing seriousness that often leads to homogeneity, racism, sexism and bullying.”
So this isn’t exactly related but I think it shows just how far the rot has really set in in some cases.

As a aside I wish to state that I’ve never been a fan of doing that kinda stuff and if I piss anyone off saying this well sorry but I figure most folks who do it actively are kinda assholes but that’s not here or there. Gameplay has been compromised to appease the kinda folks we are fighting with, this should tell you right now why it’s important to microscope your games and who devs them from now on.

But homogeneity is good according the empirical studies of Robert Putnam.
Now if I were a cynical man I would argue they are trying to reference some kind of boogeyman with referencing homogeneity, like an unconscious reminder of some past evil which stood for homogeneity at all costs.
Can’t think of any though.

If that were the case then they are simply resorting to a scare tactic. And we know they are above that right?
@silbasa
Yeah, sounds like the book burning type.

Nothing makes nerd groups more willing to accept outside influence quite like implications how the rest of society would destroy their escapism from society if given the chance.

@Whatevs
Homogeneity is good for the homogeneous, but less so for those who are not. Knowing that, she simply tries to speak through the perspective of those homogeneity could hurt, although failing at it hard.

Pointing that out does not defeat the argument for homogeneity.
In fact it strengthens it since it means the solution is homogeneity for the non-homogenous through peaceful separation or self-relocation

@Darth Sonic
I do.
But it is irrelevant as I did gove reference to a group of people who valued homogeneity at any cost.
Which is why I called saying it as a bad thing in of itself was a scare tactic.
@Whatevs
I would argue that it does defeat the argument for homogeneity. You can’t just slice out a part of the group that isn’t doing well to bias the result and claim it works. Not to mention homogeneity breeds weakness since whatever weakness one has, everyone else would have. And in the realm of ideas, it leaves your thoughts unchallenged, you know, echo chambers?

none of that is true, or proven. Just talking points.
Homogeneity is when more than 90% are the same. Nobody says you take away the heterogenous slice. They simply point out that the homogeneous group usually overperforms.

Nor does it mean there is no marketplace of ideas since ideas come from with distant cultures and often through trade.
This is what Dr. Hans Hermann-Hoppe noted, that homogeneity and self determination for a group bound to a geographic area does not lead to isolationism (unless they just have bad trade which is an independent factor)
First on topic:
@uc9

Wow. That judge’s behavior. Starting to feel like I need to wear a tinfoil hat. How the fuck? Just, how does she control everyone like this?

Avoidable and totally off topic tangent:
@Archonix
Yeah, tangents happen. I don’t see why it’s a problem unless we completely monopolize the thread. Or was was 157 pages of screencaps and links proving SJW’s are shitheads no enough on topic material?

@Whatevs
“ none of that is true, or proven. Just talking points.”

Yeah, not like diversity is a successful/damn near essential survival strategy in everything from business to biology. Not like multiple cultures and ethnicity’s have ever come together to form new, eclectic, wildly successful cultures that combine strengths and cover old blind spots with new perspectives.

Nope. Robert Putnam “empirically proved” your value judgement because he observed that areas with mixed ethnicity’s in one nation over a specific time period in history had higher levels of distrust. Surely this is a universal constant and not based on historical context and stage of human societal development on a longer timeline. No siree. Surely nothing was gained, people can never learn, and the highest level humanity should strive for is trust in an unchallenged little bubble. That’s “good”. Not trying to grow or gain a more universal understanding and appreciation for their fellow humans. That’s just silly.

What exactly is your point, anyway? It would be better if we all voluntarily segregated ourselves?
