Anyone like to sing?

I wish I could sing high but I can’t :( I’ve gotten laryngitis twice from trying to sing too high… so, yeah….. I pretty much can’t sing in the fourth octave at all without it sounding strained… at least can’t hold notes without it sounding strained…
 
The Drones song actually worked pretty well because I sang an octave lower than him and he sings high so it was perfect for me

Here’s one I sang a few days ago… this one I hadn’t listened to in a while so considering that I think it’s not bad

My XLR cable has died before… Some loose connection deal… Hopefully it’s not doing it again as my mic keeps disconnecting for a second or so every once in a while and that’s what happened last time before I just couldn’t get it to work at all
 
I have the Snowball mic as a backup, at least
 
The quality is ‘meh’ compared to my other mic…. but at least it’s usable and sounds decent :P It’s a good backup mic

I sang this one standing up :P Decided to right before I sang it.. I was going to just sit down like I usually do but… eh..

BTW do you know how to make it so you can record both the desktop audio and your voice in Audacity?
 
never could figure it out… I found something but then I saw you had to play your voice back through the speakers and at that point I’m just like “wtf”
 
I can’t why I couldn’t get it to work exactly… I think it HAD to be through the speaker you were playing the other audio through… I guess that means I could connect a different set of… oh, no, that wouldn’t work… yeah, it was stupid… I don’t like hearing my voice through my headphones… I just wear them on one ear so I can hear my voice…
 
Also, with the program I use, it records 3 audio tracks at the same time as 320kbps Apple mp4s… it records one with desktop audio and mic combined…. then one as just desktop audio and one as just mic… that way it’s all ready to go but if something happens like the volume isn’t loud enough on either one I can just edit it really easily by putting them both in Audacity
 
 
I guess how I do it works… just record a MKV and then extract the audio track and reconvert back to mp4… I usually recompress as either 224 or 256kbps mp4… I found that works amazingly well… even 160 sounds pretty good but I figure why not just go a liiittle more… I guess I could just do V0 mp3, too… eh, oh well
 
I usually record through either Spotify as that’s 320kbps Vorbis, or find the 320 mp3 or lossless file…. as recording Youtube audio can be not very good quality sometimes… on newer videos and if it’s compressed properly beforehand it should be fine… as they use 160kbps Opus now… but, still…
 
 
You know what, nvm, it doesn’t matter… the way I do it is fine
 
 
It’s not like my singing is that great anyway… it’s not horrible but it’s not really good either

Haven’t relistened to this one yet but I think I did okay… but that’s just judging by how it sounded while I was singing
 
 
I didn’t a lot of small changes in this but that’s okay because as long as I know the general rhythm I can just follow along as I sing… and I can match a tone within about a tenth of a second so even if I don’t know all the pitch changes as long as I know the general flow of the song I can usually sing it almost real-time… so that’s good

Just sung a Rogue song… luckily I knew it just well enough to sing… well, also, if I don’t know the pitch exactly I can just follow along and fill in the blanks… as I said, as long as it’s just a few notes I can match them within about a tenth of a second or so… they might be slightly off for a split second but it’s usually not too noticeable as long as it’s just a couple of notes
 
Or at least a fifth of a second… but only for a few notes… I have to at least know the song partially

Well, more accurately, I can hear and attempt a pitch within about a tenth of a second… but it can take a little longer to get the pitch right… so it can be off
 
Which is why it only works for a few notes

Just did a combination… I think I made a mistake with the lyrics with “Move Along”.. I said “when you fall, everyone sins” I think it’s supposed to be stands… yeaaaah… I knew that… dang it… that’s what the website said that I had pulled up.. lol

It’s.. pretty bad.. I don’t think it’s nearly as good as a lot of the single ones I did
 
But I wasn’t really fully trying either… And it was 12 minutes :p

Also, the beginning part I tried singing in the correct octave… it was just a liiittle too high for me which is why my voice sounds strained and shit

It’s harder for me to get the pitch correct when singing lower because it’s harder to hear my voice relative to the song and also it’s not like.. clean… it sounds kind of… well… basically, it’s harder to tell if it’s the correct pitch… usually I can get within a tenth of a semitone pretty easily on sustained notes… but… that’s not for lower notes… here I’m probably off like a third or even half of a semitone on the sustained notes…

Okay… seriously… this cutting out is not a good sign… last time this started happening it eventually just wouldn’t connect at all…

Ffs… I just checked and that “world” note was G4…. I sang an octave lower where it was easier for me and it’s definitely G4…
 
 
Yup, at first my voice is about 193hz and it sounds slightly too low… but near the end I hit 196hz and it sounds perfect… definitely G4 in the original song… G3 is 196hz (as I sang an octave lower)
 
I wouldn’t have tried to do it if I knew it was so high… I eventually hit it near the end as I had to keep raising my voice slightly until I knew I hit it… but… wow… I can’t tell if my voice is excessively strained or if it’s falsetto.. well, regardless, REALLY fucking high for me…

I never tried recording both at once. The solution I tend to go for is ing an instrumental backing track (or recording it myself by switching the input to directsound if I can’t find a link anywhere) and using that for one track and singing over that on another track. Which also gives you the benefit of being able to turn the tracks up or down if one drowns out the other.

Okay.. so it is possible to hold a G4 without falsetto… but it sounds… well… just listen to the end…

Ah… it did sound slightly too high… looking at the spectrogram, it looks like it’s just by about a third of a semitone… but it’s in the beginning and end that I’m too high… it says near the middle of the note I’m okay

See, I just use OBS to record but make sure to set the bitrate to 320 and make sure it uses Apple AAC to record and then record 3 tracks at the same time (one is mic plus desktop audio, second is just mic and third is just desktop audio) and that way it’s all ready to go but there’s also just the mic and also just the desktop audio… also helps if I need to edit
 
It records it into a video but then I just take it from the video and re-save as 224 or 256kbps VBR mp4 is what I usually use… it’s similar to V0 of LAME

It had been like… gosh… I don’t even know how long…. 7 months since I’ve listened to/sung this song? And I didn’t know it extremely well then so… I definitely didn’t know it much when I sung it just now
 
It’s… pretty horrible… a lot is just due to me not knowing it very well… a lot is due to it not being in my optimal range… and a lot is I just sung it horribly…

To reply to the initial topic: I also like to sing. I even have my own band, Dark Matter. Granted, we’re on hiatus now, but we’ll see how long that lasts.

Made a shit-load of mistakes

This one… eh… on the higher notes I put too much power in my voice and over compensated and went a little too high… and on the first long sustained note I’m slightly too low near the beginning, perfect near the middle and about a tenth of a semitone or so too high near the end… so not tooooo bad…
 
On the second long sustained note…. uh… I didn’t check the spectrogram for the actual frequency and it’s almost impossible to hear if it sounds right.. as the quality is pretty low… falsetto also uses about 3x the amount of air and I ran out of air pretty quickly…. I probably need to use a less airy falsetto…. maybe try to limit the amount of air that comes out

Dangit… I’m about a tenth of a semitone or so too high on the last long note… well… it’s varying… it’s going from hitting it straight on to being about an eighth too high… so on average.. yeah… a tenth… or so…
