What is the function of the scope part of URLs? it seems to hold information about the image but other elements as well? it seem urls work completely without them? what’s the point of them being there? is sharing a link with the scope tag secure?
Scope parameter?
The scope parameter defines the search scope you were using. This allows the site to keep track of what search term (or view, such as your favorites) brought you to that image, so that the previous/next/random buttons work.
For example, if you go to /1334848?scope=se428408e1032670fceb2c151116a687f4ed3677bb, you’ll notice the search bar shows the tags I was looking for that lead me to that image. And the next/previous buttons will take you to other images that feature those tags.
Note that the scope is not saved anyway, it’s just cached, so that link will stop working after some period of time (probably 30-60 minutes, I’m not sure the exact duration).
