I’ve watched the dub. I was in Japan when the first Michael Bay movie was coming out, so there was a massive Transformers Marathon on Cartoon Network. The Beast Wars made me angry, the Beast Machines somehow made me angrier. I dislike RiD2015 a lot, but that’s more out of disappointment. This…this left me white-hot with rage.

If you thought Beast Machines Silverbolt was dumb, be grateful you didn’t have to hear him go, “Flap, flap, flaaaaaap” as he carries Black Arachnia over to the Grand Mal.

@Darth Prime

I thought the artwork looked a bit different from Deviations…
@OptimusPrimevil

I usually find dubs annoying when they change character personalities. Anyone Cardcaptors? They skipped the first few episodes and started when Li Syaoran, the rival and future love interest shows up. And they opted to make Sakura more confident from the start rather than being afraid and unsure, but growing braver and more confident as time went on.

I’m also not fond of dubs changing music, like how Galaxy Force’s music (some of my favourite in any TF series) got replaced in Cybertron. It’s a different thing if the new track is awesome in its own right (like some of the Dragonball Z music).

But Primus, how I hate when people decide to add ‘humour’ to a scene that doesn’t fucking need it. When the Japanese G1 dub added lines, it was generally stuff like, “Look over there!” “What the?” or the narrator yelling stuff like, “And then…!” or “Behold! The battle begins!” Stuff I could forgive, you know?

The Beast Wars and Beast Machines JP dubs mostly threw in nonsense like characters yelling things like, “Sha sha sha sha!” or “Dananananananana!” while firing their weapons or silent scenes being undone by them babbling.
@WM-R
how about this?

galaxy force footage but cybertron names for some (megs/galvatron still retains the master title) but galaxy force terminologies (chip square instead of omega lock). script is still galaxy force though (no unicron singularity. it’s the grand black hole).

and override is a dude (not nitro convoy, override).

Honestly I just don’t think it’s worth getting that worked up over

Japan has a subbed version of beast wars, so it’s not like they only have the dub
@trashboat

But how faithful are those subs? Because I a channel called Animax that showed Ruroni Kenshin (under the name Samurai X), and the subs seemed to be based on the dub version. For example, a sequence where the anti-hero Saitou sneezes in a restaurant went from the waitress going, “Oh, my! Are you alright?” and him replying, “Yes, my apologies,” to her going, “How rude! You’re a pig!” and him responding, “A fool like you wouldn’t understand.” That rather affected that scene, from Saitou keeping up his polite, efficient police officer image (the one he maintains as part of his cover) to him being an asshole.

@OptimusPrimevil

Changing a few names I can understand. Like, say, in the west a name isn’t available for trademark reasons (like why Shockwave had to be Shockblast). Changing a character’s gender is something I really dislike, though. I felt that way about Air Razor being a guy in Japan, and I felt that way about Nitro Convoy becoming Override.

That said, I’d be okay with using Unicron Singularity in place of or concurrent with Grand Black Hole. If I right, even in Galaxy Force they mention the Grand Black Hole was caused by the collapse of some dark god.

But the music. They must keep the music. I never watched Cybertron from start to finish, but I thinking the soundtrack was pretty generic.
@WM-R
yes they kept the GF audio track.

feels the guys who did the dub at least know their stuff but wanted the people to not be confused with the toys being sold (at the time).

Still thinking about TF in SRW

I’ve heard Microns don’t affect the micron densetsu fights by that much, so they could just be a plot thing

I think the biggest issue would be the micron weapons
@trashboat
think minicons as tf exclusive equipable parts. think the PS2 game. some are offensive add-ons, some are stat boosting add-ons.

to add more versatility to the ML tfs, once you acquire the hydra cannon essential minicons, every ML character that gets deployed automatically has them equipped. since it’s mostly turn based and with the proper usage, you can manage to use the star saber/requiem blaster at least ten times near the end of the game (more if starscream’s sacrifice can be averted), the skyboom shield is a perfect defense tactic if you choose to block an attack (including MAP weapons).
@Darth Prime
was answering the sentiment that the minicons won’t affect the plot much. addressing the in-game usage again (i made that point somewhere in the thread already).

would minicons be treated like hidden stuff like in shin SRW (where there are items hidden in the map and if you miss it, they’re gone) or automatically gained after the mission is over?
@trashboat
more limiting than weird.

in alpha gaiden, some mechs can only be equipped with gear before and after a mission (x to x divider and vice versa for example). while in J you can custom equip mechs midst mission (go to the mothership and equip the necessary parts) with some being able to be equipped/swapped on the field (strike gundam and the skygrasper plane for example). they’re in-series only so you can install a sword strike equipment onto a vf-1S no matter how cool it would’ve been.
@trashboat
technically.

in J you can’t have both the strike, the strike rouge and the skygrasper be loaded out with the same thing at the same time. but because minicons are fully sentient they can be summoned by the ones you control at the moment.

i guess you can treat the star saber, skyboom shield and requiem blaster like the data weapons from gear fighter dendoh (some of them can be usable by the other series robot once it s your team).

If Beast Wars Neo was in SRW, the Big Cannon would probably be easily the most powerful attack in that game (Maybe topped by the Matrix Buster if that can be used in gameplay)

GOKAAAAI... SILVER!
So, with Hasbro’s 5-year deal with Paramount, Cyberverse might end up being on Nickelodeon instead…

…I’m honestly not sure if this is better or worse than being on CN yet again.
