They were seen eating downright poisonous stuff many times in G4 at least; chocolate is 1 pretty much poisonous food an equine can’t process, but in ‘MLP’ they’ve no less problems with it than humans do, which is why The Coco Clan is a collection of subfamilies farming coco 1st, intel & state protection 2nd.
Obligatory PSA to not feed bread to birbs since it is unhealthy and can harm or kill them, peas or oats are better.
Of course I imagine you can feed bread to magical talking Pegasus ponies all you want.
